We had lunch here, whilst on a short break, and were totally knocked out by the quality, presentation, imaginative menu and freshness of the food. Rowena & Whiteman and their staff were the most friendly and accommodating people we have ever met in a pub/restaurant. This is a real treasure of a find in an ideal location when travelling east/west. It is south of the A30, between Launceston and Okehampton, barely deviating from your journey yet off the busy main road. |

Hoops Inn, Horns Cross, Near Clovelly, Bideford, Devon EX39 5DL We had lunch here, just a starter, and gosh, what a treat! It was so good that we returned in the evening for a main course and sweet. Exceptional food, smiling service and the Cornish real ale was perfect. A classic coaching inn with plenty of character. For something completely different are the Cornish Meaderies, where you can drink mead (honey wine) and country wine in atmospheric converted chapels and other old buildings. Candle lit, simple food eaten with your fingers,‘medieval ambiance’. Only open in the evenings, and out of season some are only open Friday to Sunday. Our favourite is the Trewellard Meadery near St. Just on the Land’s End to St. Ives Road, but then there are still some Meaderies we have yet to visit. |
