Nut
Tree Farm at Stoughton Cross is a 16th Century Farmhouse set in
two acres of secluded peaceful semi-wild garden, orchard and woodland
area in beautiful Somerset countryside, 1.25 miles from the attractive
and historic village of Wedmore. Stoughton Cross was a pilgrim stopover
and still has a medieval stone cross and a holy well. |
Nut
Tree Farm was built around the time of Queen Elizabeth I, Francis Drake,
Walter Raleigh and Shakespeare,
though we cannot possibly claim any of them stayed here!! However, Elizabeth
did give vast tracts of Somerset land to one Hugh Sexey for services
to crown and country, as reflected in the name of one of our local pubs, ‘Sexey's
Arms’, and also in ‘Hugh Sexey's School’.
In the immediate locality we are one of four farmhouses, two of which are
listed and which were all built between the 15th and 17th Centuries. Beyond
our land we are otherwise surrounded by small rolling fields and meadows. |
